When a Second Opinion is of Primary Concern

When patients receive a cancerous diagnosis, a second opinion is often sought to verify the diagnosis and ensure the best course of treatment. At CBLPath we understand the value of having a second opinion and follow very strict quality assurance procedures in diagnosing every specimen that comes through our doors. We have become the second opinion choice of many physicians throughout the country because of our commitment to provide the best possible care and our quality process, which includes:

•  Hiring only specialty trained and experienced pathologists to interpret specimens
•  Being able to apply special stains as a second step to help confirm the diagnosis
•  Holding an internal second opinion process — a consensus conference — for each cancerous or unusual result, with at least two specialized pathologists at a multi-headed microscope to review the specimen and reach agreement on the final diagnosis
•  Getting an additional opinion from a respected outside source in the less than 1% of cases where there is a challenging diagnosis

To provide a Second Opinion CBLPath will need the following information:

  1. Requisition form or written request with all patient demographics or patient data sheet from your office

  2. Patient’s insurance information for billing purposes.

  3. Requesting physician’s name/address/phone/fax who will be receiving the consultative report.

  4. Pathology slides and report for the case.
