Madeline F. Vazquez, M.D.

Director, Department of Integrated Diagnostics
Dr. Madeline Vazquez is board certified in anatomic pathology by the American Board of Pathology. She is also certified by the NYDOH in Cytopathology, General Histopathology, and Oncology – Molecular and Cellular Tumor Markers. After earning her M.D. degree from the New York University School of Medicine, Dr. Vazquez completed her residency at New York University Medical Center where she was Chief Resident. She pursued her specialty training in Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy at New York University Medical Center and the Karolinska Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden. Prior to joining CBLPath, she was Professor of Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Professor of Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in Radiology, Chief of Cytopathology, and Director of the Cytopathology Fellowship Training Program at New York Presbyterian Hospital–Weill Cornell for more than 12 years. The prior nine years, Dr. Vazquez was in private practice specializing in Breast Needle Biopsy Pathology in Manhattan, New York.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Vazquez actively participates in a number of professional societies and organizations including the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), the American Society of Cytopathology (ASC), the New York Metropolitan Breast Cancer Group (NYMBCG), and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP). She is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology/International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (ASCO/IASLC), a Contributor to the World Health Organization (WHO) Classification of Tumours: Pathology and Genetics of Tumours of the Respiratory Tract, Mediastinum and Thymus, was the lead ELCAP Cytologist of the International Consensus on Screening for Lung Cancer and was on the NCI Breast FNA Consensus Committee.

Dr. Vazquez has lectured at more than 70 national and international conferences on anatomic pathology, cytology, and radiology. Fluent in English and Spanish, she is the author of more than 150 peer-reviewed articles, abstracts and book chapters.

Teresa M. Alasio, M.D.

Cytopathologist
Dr. Teresa Alasio is board certified in anatomic pathology and cytopathology. She received her M.D. degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, where she went on to complete her residency in anatomic and clinical pathology in the Department of Pathology and also serve as Chief Resident. Subsequently, Dr. Alasio completed a fellowship in cytopathology at New York University. During her fellowship she trained in a specialized technique of FNA biopsy and participated in related clinics, performing inpatient FNA biopsies. After her fellowship, Dr. Alasio served as Assistant Professor in General Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology at New York Medical College in Valhalla, N.Y. Prior to joining CBLPath, she was Clinical Associate Professor in General Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. In that position, she served as Director of Cytopathology and Director of the Fine Needle Aspiration Service at University Hospital of Brooklyn, as well as Assistant Program Director for the Department of Pathology Residency Program. She has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, such as Diagnostic Cytopathology and Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and has presented at national and international conferences. She is certified in ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration biopsy by the College of American Pathologists, and is a member of that organization. Dr. Alasio is also a member of the International Academy for Cytopathology.
