November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month

November is the recognized month to raise awareness for lung cancer, the second most common cancer and the leading cause of death for men and women in the U.S.  Small cell and non-small cell lung cancers are the most common types of the disease and are determined based on how the cells look under a microscope.  If you have been diagnosed with lung cancer, it is important that you educate yourself on what your risks are based on the type of cancer and the stage of your cancer.

Important Facts:

  • An estimated 224,000* new cases of lung cancer will be diagnosed in men and women in the U.S. in 2014
  • Although cigarette smoking is a leading cause of lung cancer, non-smokers can be diagnosed with the disease as well
  • Lung cancer makes up 27% of all cancer deaths
