Policy on Patient Privacy for CBLPath Couriers
CBLPath is committed to complying with all applicable Federal, State, and Local laws, rules, and regulations including the HIPAA privacy regulations effective April 14, 2003. The laboratory's policy is to protect the privacy of patients' protected health information (PHI) as a matter of professional responsibility in accordance with all laws and regulations. To this end, we ask the couriers to:
Limit visual access to protected health information. Non-authorized persons should not have access to PHI.
In physician's offices, couriers may often be in a position to see protected health information. Couriers are reminded that any PHI inadvertently discovered by couriers in a physician's office must remain confidential.
If a courier sees improper use of PHI he/she must report this to the lab.
