CBLPath Receives Accreditation from the College of American Pathologists4/9/2010 OCALA, FLA. — The CBLPath, Inc. mobile frozen section laboratory based in Ocala, Fla. has been awarded accreditation by the Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), due to the results of a recent on-site inspection. The mobile laboratory’s director, Cecilia V. Oliveri, M.D. was advised of this national recognition and congratulated for the excellence of the services being provided. The CBLPath laboratory is one of more than 7,000 CAP-accredited laboratories worldwide. “Meeting the rigorous standards set by the CAP is a tribute to the expert management and operation of our lab,” noted Carlos D. Urmacher, M.D., CBLPath Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer. “Our medical, technical and administrative staff labors tirelessly to improve, maintain and ensure patient safety, quality assurance and best practices.” The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960s, is recognized by the federal government as being equal to or more stringent than the government’s own inspection program. During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, as well as the laboratory’s equipment, facilities, safety program and record, in addition to the overall management of the laboratory. This stringent inspection program is designed to specifically ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients. CBLPath operates two full-service, custom frozen section laboratory units. One is in Florida; the other, New York. Each is completely self-contained and staffed by a board certified anatomic pathologist and a technologist who are experienced in frozen section preparation and interpretation. These mobile laboratories provide the utmost in expediency for medical practices and their patients. Diagnoses are rendered at the time of biopsy without the need to send specimens off site. Patients experience the convenience of having diagnostic procedures performed in their physicians’ offices or at ambulatory surgery centers rather than being admitted to the hospital. Scheduling for the CBLPath mobile frozen section unit is available to meet the specific needs of medical practices. In addition, the service is covered by managed care organizations.
